What is 960 sterling silver?

960 sterling is a high-purity silver alloy composed of 96% silver and 4% alloy. Fine (100%) silver is soft and prone to breakage, so alloys are used to strengthen the jewelry's composition. The most commonly used silver alloy is 925, which is 92.5% fine silver and 7.5% alloy. 925 is stronger than fine silver but is less bright and more prone to tarnish.

By using 960 sterling silver, we can create pieces that are stronger than fine silver yet brighter and more tarnish resistant than 925 sterling. These pieces are fine, heirloom-quality jewelry and should last a lifetime. ♡

How to care for your silver:

Silver is a precious metal and should be cared for properly to ensure longevity. One of the best ways to keep your silver looking new is to wear it regularly, as the oils on your skin act as a protective barrier against the air (isn't that magical? It's as if you're meant to be together!). It is best not to swim or shower in your jewelry. When not in use, store your pieces in a clean, dry place. To keep your silver sparkling, avoid exposing it to harsh chemicals while cleaning, salty air, or products containing sulfur. But don't worry if you're a beachy girl-- you can easily clean your pieces if they do end up tarnishing.

How to clean your silver:

Although 960 sterling is highly tarnish resistant, silver can tarnish-- it is simply the nature of the metal. However, the layer of tarnish can be simply removed using a polishing cloth, water, and even a small amount of gentle dish soap if necessary. Where costume jewelry is effectively ruined after tarnishing due to the nature of plating, real silver will look good as new after a little cleaning!
